Medicare Billing Changes

You may have recently seen updates from the Department of
Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) regarding new Assignment
of Benefit arrangements for bulk billing and simplified
billing, set to commence on
1 July 2026.

Bulk Billing: Assignment of Benefit
|

|
What is changing?
The government has introduced a 12-month
transition period. During this time, verbal
assignment of benefit will remain permitted for
all bulk-billed patients across all settings.
Additionally, a new "enduring" Assignment of
Benefit option will be introduced for eligible
patients (such as MyMedicare registered patients,
aged care residents, and those attending ACCHOs).

No immediate workflow changes required
You do not need to make any immediate changes to
your daily operations during this transition
period.

Your software is compliant
If your OZCARELINK system has already been updated
for the Assignment of Benefit changes, it remains
fully compliant from 1 July 2026.

Seamless rollouts
Our development team is continuing our integration
work and refining our digital solutions to
facilitate the assignment of benefit. These
enhancements will be rolled out seamlessly to your
practice from 1 July 2026 onwards.

What is changing?
The recent announcements regarding bulk billing do
not affect the new Assignment of Benefit
requirements for simplified billing. These changes
will proceed as originally planned, commencing on
1 July 2026.
